Our emphasis on sustainability
Local production, minimalist design and thoughtful use of clothing are part of LADA's approach. Read how the brand thinks about how a garment comes into being and the life it goes on to lead.

"For me, from a designer's point of view, sustainable fashion is fashion that is not justified merely by good design and a nice, well-made product. It is also fashion that does not harm the environment and gives the consumer more than something already made can give them. Because if there is no further added value, there is no point in making anything new."
Lada Vyvialová
For us at the LADA atelier, sustainability means that the work we do, we do with a traceable origin (we know all our suppliers personally), with a controlled production process and with a quality that will be timeless, or at least the highest possible.
LADA pieces are sustainable because we make them under our own conditions. On the one hand, we try to eliminate the consumption of energy and the carbon dioxide emitted in production, in transport or in excessive handling. And we also leave out those links in the chain that can be left out. This means we have our fabrics made to order in the Czech Republic, relatively close to our atelier. And that matters. We know it is not material lying around somewhere that might get used, or might never be sold. That does not happen with us. Every single metre of nano fabric produced is earmarked in advance for a specific piece, and every one is used up in our atelier.
What makes our garments sustainable?
Properties not found in nature
For us, nanomaterials are not a marketing slogan but the very reason to produce new clothing at all, of which there is generally a surplus in the world. Our fabrics are not quite ordinary; we enrich them with nanotechnology. This means the material has the added value of unrivalled properties. It is more useful and brings the wearer more comfort than ordinary materials and than the natural materials our material is combined with. There is a much higher likelihood that people will wear our garments for longer and make better use of them. And that is very important to us, and not only with the planet in mind.
A minimalist designer piece
Related to this is the minimalist design of the pieces – within minimalism, every garment can be worn in several different ways for many different uses and respects different body types, so a garment gets everyday use, which significantly lowers its CPW (cost per wear). This is a further benefit beyond the physical properties of the nanomaterial, which cut down on maintenance – ironing and washing. With our pieces we want to help reduce the number of items in the wardrobe and to counter the current devaluation of the garment as such. Today it is seen as disposable.
Handwork and local production
Western society treats clothes as something almost free and throws them away in bulk. Yet in the past a garment was a very valuable part of life, even a means of payment. A quality garment had its significance and was passed down through generations. Certain materials, colours or embroidery represented social status or membership of a particular community. People certainly did not have wardrobes full of clothes; they might afford only two or three outfits. Today it is exactly the opposite. As production moved to the third world, people lost their relationship with their clothes. Yet fashion is still part of our non-verbal communication. Clothes still "make the man".
Quality that lasts for years
With the philosophy of slow fashion, the LADA atelier brings clothing collections and strives to return value to our (ideally minimalist) wardrobes and quality pieces that last countless seasons and, thanks to their simple design, stay current regardless of passing trends. All the pieces across our collections can be combined with one another and have countless ways of being worn, so even with just a few items you can put together an outfit for any occasion.
You can also extend the life of your garments by washing them gently. How to care for garments made from nano materials is described in a separate article.
