Do you know what you are putting next to your skin?

What does the OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100 label mean and why take an interest in proof of textile properties? The article introduces the topic of certification in relation to LADA garments.

Víte, co si pouštíte k tělu?

We choose clothes by how they look. How they fit. How we feel in them. But we rarely ask the most important question: what exactly is in the material we have directly on our skin all day long? During production, textiles go through dyeing, finishing and softening. A beautiful fabric can look perfect, but real quality is often hidden precisely in what cannot be seen.

Most of us have no way of checking. With food we read the ingredients, with cosmetics we look at the list of substances — but with clothing we usually have no choice but to trust how it looks and how the brand comes across. And that despite the fact that we can have textiles on our skin for as long as sixteen hours a day.

That is why, with LADA garments, we do not deal only with aesthetics, cut and function. We also deal with the safety of the materials. LADA garments carry OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 certification. For the customer, this means one simple but important thing: the material has been tested for harmful substances and is suitable for contact with the skin.

At a time when fashion talks a lot about sustainability, quality and responsibility, it is worth distinguishing between a nice story and a verifiable standard. OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 is not a fashionable phrase. It is a specific certification which says that the safety of textiles matters.

In the following paragraphs we look at exactly what the certification means, what is tested in textiles and why it is information that carries real weight when choosing clothes.

What does OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100 mean and why is it important for LADA garments?

One of the best-known and internationally recognised certifications in this field is OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100. LADA garments carry it under number PG020 209711. For the customer, it is a clear signal that the material has been tested for harmful substances and meets the requirements for textile safety.

With the LADA brand, one more distinction is important. In the textile industry you will often find that it is the material itself, or the supplier's fabric by the metre, that holds OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 certification. LADA, however, communicates the certification for its end products, that is, the finished garments. In the Czech context this is an exceptional standard, because the customer does not receive just general information about the fabric, but a clearer signal that the safety of the resulting garment as a whole has been addressed.

OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 certification can be verified through the official OEKO-TEX® Label Check tool by entering the specific label or certificate number.

What is OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100?

OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 is a certification for textile products that have been tested for the presence of harmful substances. Put simply: if a garment carries this certification, it has been checked against set criteria and meets the requirements for textile safety.

It is not just a marketing label of the "natural", "gentle" or "eco" kind. OEKO-TEX is a specific testing system focused on the safety of textiles for people. With clothing this matters above all because the material comes into direct contact with the skin.

What does the certification check?

OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100 certification addresses whether the textile is free of harmful substances in quantities that could be a problem for human health. The checks include, for example:

  • pH values,
  • pesticide residues,
  • preservatives,
  • selected heavy metals,
  • formaldehyde,
  • problematic dyes,
  • substances with allergenic or carcinogenic potential,
  • other chemical substances monitored in textile production.

Importantly, it is not just the fabric itself that is assessed. In a finished product, the threads, dyes, prints, interfacings or other parts of the garment may also play a role. That is exactly why OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100 is a clear signal for the customer: this product has been tested for harmful substances.

Why does it matter?

The skin is the body's largest organ. What we wear touches it directly and for long periods. With an ordinary T-shirt, a dress or a base layer, it is not only about aesthetics. It is also about comfort, safety and trust in the material.

Certified materials make sense especially for people who:

  • have more sensitive skin,
  • care about the quality of materials,
  • do not want to wear textiles of unclear origin,
  • are interested in sustainable fashion,
  • want to buy less, but better,
  • are looking for clothing with a well-considered origin and workmanship.

OEKO-TEX is not the same as "organic"

OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100 certification does not automatically mean that the material is organic, bio or completely ecological. Above all, it means that the textile has been tested for harmful substances and meets the safety requirements. That is the difference.

The word "organic" usually speaks of the origin of the raw material or the way it was grown. OEKO-TEX deals mainly with the safety of the resulting textile product for people. And that is precisely what is essential with clothing.

Why is it important with LADA materials?

Lada Vyvialová has long worked with materials that combine design, function, technology and a more sustainable approach to fashion. We also design and sew our pieces from functional fabrics with certified Czech nanotechnology and we hold to the principles of slow fashion.

With LADA garments, OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100 certification is important information for the customer, because it confirms that the resulting products have been tested for safety. This matters especially with clothing that is not only beautiful at first sight, but is also meant to be pleasant, functional and safe to wear. Fashion is not only about how we look. It is also about what we put next to our skin.

Quality is not only seen. Quality shows in the details.

With a garment we often notice the cut, the material, the colour or the workmanship. These are things we see immediately. Certification is less conspicuous. It is not decoration or a trendy detail. It is proof that someone has addressed even what the ordinary customer cannot see at first glance. And that is exactly where its value lies.

Quality begins in the atelier – with the choice of material, the cut and the workmanship.

Sustainable fashion should not be just a nice story. It should stand on specific decisions: the choice of materials, the quality of workmanship, the lifespan of the garment and responsibility towards the person who wears it.

Who is OEKO-TEX certified clothing for?

Essentially for anyone who does not want to choose clothes by looks alone. Certified materials are appreciated above all by:

  • women who wear a garment all day long,
  • customers with more sensitive skin,
  • people who care about the origin and quality of the material,
  • those who prefer slow fashion to fast fashion,
  • customers who want fewer random purchases and more well-considered pieces in their wardrobe.

In the LADA brand, aesthetics meets function and responsibility. OEKO-TEX certification is one of the specific proofs that the material matters. You might like to browse our collection of dresses or the whole women's collection.

How to recognise a quality garment?

A quality garment is not just one that looks good in a photo. A quality garment should:

  • fit well,
  • be pleasant to wear,
  • withstand repeated use,
  • be well considered in both cut and material,
  • have a clear origin,
  • be safe for contact with the skin.

OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100 is one of the tools that help you find your way. It does not tell you everything about a garment. But it tells you one important thing: the textile has been tested for harmful substances. And that is information that carries weight when choosing clothes.

Why are we talking about this?

Because the customer has the right to know what they are wearing. At a time when the fashion market is full of fast collections, cheap materials and marketing shortcuts, it is good to hold on to specific facts. OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100 certification is not a fashionable phrase. It is a verifiable standard that helps distinguish textiles tested for harmful substances from ordinary claims without proof. With LADA garments it is part of a broader approach: to create fashion that makes sense not only to look at, but also in everyday wear.

Summary

OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100 means that a textile product has been tested for harmful substances and meets the safety requirements. With clothing this matters because we wear the material directly on the body. It is not an empty ecological claim, and it does not automatically mean an organic material. It does mean, however, that the product has been checked for substances that should not be in textiles.

And that is precisely why OEKO-TEX certification is important information with LADA materials. Because beautiful clothes should not be merely beautiful. They should also be well considered, well made and safe for the person who wears them.
